Funny, I thought it was a biology thing. That is someone's real life. So if you were to name the fandom, it would be what exactly?

Whereas Not!Secret #2 refers to the Supernatural fandom, and AGAIN we are bottom-screened.

Why is it not a secret? I'm not the OP, but the opinion that the offscreen engagement between one of the show's main stars and the actress who plays a recurring minor character is going to negatively impact the show's onscreen chemistry or plot seems both fandom and secret. It's not an opinion commonly expressed and I can see why the poster doesn't want to say it on a fan comm.

Sandy McCoy, who plays a demon on the show, just got engaged to Jared Padalecki, one of the principles.

Most fans are happy because they like to see the actors they like happy.

It sounds like the OP is worried that the offscreen relationship will negatively impact the characters' onscreen interactions (either the adversarial demon bit will be toned down, or the Dean/Sam relationship will be changed) - I think it's a legitimate point, as this has been known to happen when costars get involved on other shows (or in movies).

I may not agree, but the poster has me thinking.

And since this opinion is not a popular one, I can see why she wants to keep it a secret.

I don't know; it seems to me pretty much the definition of a fandom secret. It's a private opinion one wouldn't express openly about fandom. It's much more of a fandom secret than most of the "I ship it" ones, I think; but that's just my take.

But can you imagine if it was posted, how many other people would say, "that's not a secret; that's an opinion! Why wasn't ____ posted?" as well?

Also, "this probably will ruin everything" doesn't exactly illustrate anything for me, even knowing what it's supposed to be about. It doesn't even sound to me like it pertains to SPN unless someone points it out to me. Maybe it should have mentioned SPN? If I didn't know who he was, it would have just looked like another celeb-crush secret, which I also would have labeled not-secret.

The meaning of the secret because of the wording and lack of reference to anything else, is vague. That's probably why it wasn't posted.

Sorry to jump in here, but it sounds to me like you have a bit of a bias toward animated characters. How is this not related to fandom? It was quite obvious to me that "everything" referred primarily to what goes on in SPN. Just because the characters are played by real people should not mean we have to put a disclaimer on all of our secrets. It's kind of hard to avoid posting pictures of the actors for non-animated fandoms; to assume that a secret is just another "celeb-crush" thing because they have real human beings on them is ridiculous. Especially when everyone actually involved in the fandom in question immediately recognizes the secret for what it is. It shouldn't matter that you can't tell what it is. Hell, I don't have even the faintest idea what 90% of the secrets posted here are about! But all that said, I've seen similar secrets (and many that were clearly not secrets by any standard) get posted - the only difference? They were almost always related to anime.

Excuse me if it sounds like I am jumping to conclusions, but this is in no way the first time SPN has been downgraded to "not a secret" or "not fandom". And I have a very strong feeling it is because of many of the mods' biases toward anime.

[Edit] I felt like I should add an example of what I was talking about. Granted, it's not anime, but #33 - how in the world is this fandom? Or is there some hidden Lindsay RPF group that I'm unaware of? Which prompts another question... certainly you count RPS/RPF as fandom. It's no secret that Jared and Jensen have a huge following of RPS fans. There's yet another way your Not!Secret can be seen as quite clearly fandom related. And as Lid has mentioned above, the negative opinion about Sandy is not a popular one in fandom. I can certainly understand why someone who truly feels that way might want to keep it a secret.

Well, I don't know about you, but actors usually have more work than just one show. "Everything" could pertain, in my opinion, to any of his current work, or even her current work, or future work, etc. It could also be that the OP had a chance to meet one and they canceled because of some personal plans. Hell, for all you know, the OP could have been planning an alien abduction and now feels human compassion towards them and decided not to do so. < /sarcasm in case you didn't get it >

Because the intended meaning of the secret is not speficially pointed towards Supernatural, that's why it's only fandom link is "celebrity," (which, by the way, is why the Lindsay Lohan secret is up, except that it actually uses the references to Parent Trap and exactly how this is a secret and affecting them/etc.) and therefore, with the wording of the secret on top of the picture with that label (celebrity, not SPN) then it's even moreso not a secret.

It's not the first time SPN has been downgraded to "not a secret" or "not fandom," but that's because so many fans make SPN secrets that are not a secret. Not fandom happened maybe once and that was because (I think) it was a random picture of Jensen Ackles with "I hate fat people" written on it. I don't know about you, but labeling that as a not!anything sounds pretty fair to me. And most of them were like that. Also, not all the not! anythings are SPN or real. A lot of them are drawings, animated, etc, etc.

It's not a secret because it's not a secret, it has nothing to do with whether it's fandom or not.

Insert any other actor/pairing/character/whatever's name in that secret, it's still not phrased as a secret.
