Notes:

Re: yesterday, I was in the middle of posting when my computer died and I couldn't save the HTML. Again if you submitted a secret last week and you don't see it up by Friday, please resubmit it. Really sorry about that.

Re: copyright stuff, EDITED: WE HAVE A RESPONSE but it sucks, basically.

Regarding 29

Quite agreed. It was also originally books - I've read the first, only one I could find translated into English. It's a great series for people looking for complex fantasy and great worldbuilding.

Though... what would you say to someone like me? I've gleaned life-lessons from Trigun. *Shrug.* I wonder if that's much better than gleaning stuff from Inu-Yasha.

There's been a second book translated to English, just recently.

Ooh, must find it! Must read! Barnes & Noble, don't let me down.

It is an excellent series, isn't it. :)

Yes. When I get some cash and can make it down to a bookstore, I must seek out the second book. I read the first and I loved seeing all the little differences between it and the anime - both are excellent, but it's just neat to see those things.

I'm hoping all the books are translated because the ending of the anime - it was like they dropped it in the middle of a story arc, like they were "waiting for the book author to finish" before making any more and I want to know *MORE* about that world.

If I can achieve worldbuilding half as good in my own original work, I'll be so happy.

I know, the differences are always intriguing – I don't think the second book has as many differences from the anime as the first one, but I could be wrong (last I watched that arc of the anime - the Taiki arc - was quite a while ago).

Yeah, me too! I don't know why they stopped, because I think the books beyond the end were actually already published when they were making the anime, and I really want to know what happens. Worse comes to worse I can read them in Japanese, I guess, but it'd be nice to have someone else do the work of translating.

And yes, the worldbuilding in that series is so excellent. Every time I read or watch Twelve Kingdoms I go back to my own original story that involves kings and politics and I feel so inadequate... But my goal is to match Ono's political twistiness some day. To that end I'm studying the Italian Renaissance and other such things, the first real research I've done for my writing – Which means Twelve Kingdoms gave me the motivation to actually do work, doesn't it. Haha.
