Most annoyed you've been by a TV character's decisions?

I couldn't stand Andrea's character on TWD. Especially when she decided not to go with Michonne. And then she she decided not to kill the Governor who she knew was a bad guy.

Just finishing up Season 5 of Justified. The Crowe family as a whole is pretty fucking stupid. Every decisions they make is laced with stupidity.

Yeah I think S5 is generally regarded as the worst season of Justified, mostly down to how annoying all the Crowes were (except Dewey of course, I love Dewey).

Also yes on Andrea. And most of Rick's decisions drive me up the wall. I think he's my least favourite character on TWD.

They killed Jimmy. :< Not directly, but it is their fault.

Urgh, yes. :( They could have maybe salvaged Andrea if they let her kill the Governor, but alas they did not. Her character in the comics is so much better.

If I recall correctly, one of the main reasons I quit watching Agents of SHIELD is because I was so annoyed at everyone all the time. NCIS was another show like that.

But I think the character who could annoy me most was Amy from The West Wing. She had a lot of potential and often she was quite funny and smart, but then sometimes she'd do the most awful or stupid things and we were still supposed to think it was quirky or something.

Just about everything Thomas did on Downton Abbey, especially since he simply wouldn't learn from his fuckups. Downton Abbey's writing was a mess but his character was especially badly written.

Yeah, he never seemed to grow or change or go anywhere until the very, very end and this show took place over YEARS.

Every time it looked like he got some sort of character development, it got retconned so hard it's a wonder no bones got broken.

Re: Most annoyed you've been by a TV character's decisions?

Agreed. And it was never implied that he was supposed to be a bit dim, like some other characters. Even if he had turned into the great big villain at the end, it still makes no sense that he never learned anything. If he's supposed to be this manipulative, scheming and entirely self-(pre-)serving dude, why is he such a failboat?

Also, Flopbert remained Flopbert to the end.

Ugh, Wobat. Wobat was one of the worst offenders as well in the "never learned a thing" but at least he has the excuse that he was older and pretty set in his ways. Thomas though? How many times can you fuck yourself over that badly and never learn to be more careful about things?

Generally, when a TV character doesn't kill the bad guy because "I don't want to be just as bad as him." No, I think the guy murdering and cannibalizing homeless people is still worse than you.

I've been hearing that a lot, but I don't get it. The good guy usually only says that if the bad guy's already been rendered powerless, and the only reason for killing him would be revenge/satisfaction. And you're supposed to infer that doing it would be the first step on the path to becoming like the bad guy. I can't think of any characters who have said they won't kill a bad guy "so I won't be like you" when the alternative is letting the bad guy go to run off and do more bad stuff.

The last time I saw it was iZombie. Immediately after the MC refused to shoot the villain, the villain shot and killed the love interest.

Re: Most annoyed you've been by a TV character's decisions?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-29 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's really not the case. Occasionally it's when the bad guy's been rendered powerless and the hero's stepping back from murdering them for pure vengeance, sure. But the argument that killing the bad guy will make the good guys just like him frequently comes up when the bad guy's still at large, and the good guys are trying to figure out how to stop them.

Which yeah, okay, killing is bad, but you know what else is also bad? Letting the bad guy continue on his killing spree while you spend the next six episodes trying to figure out how to nonlethally contain him, because apparently 16 murders are better than 1 murder somehow.

Jackie and Hyde during the second half of season 7 and beyond of That 70s Show. It's like the writers took one look at them and said, "Oh crap, Jackie's grown as a character, we can't NOT have her as anything but a shallow, marriage-obsessed cunt. How can we destroy everything she built with Hyde and come out of this smelling like a rose? Oh wait, we can have her self-implode until she reverts to her season 1 self and Hyde marries a stripper and she ends up with Fez, whom she has never been serious about! Oops, that didn't really work, and Hyde's not really married, and now Jackie's the show bicycle. Oh well, as long as she's with Fez. All's well that ends well!"

this confused the hell out of me because I thought Fez was gay for years.
