My air conditioning broke yesterday for the second time in five months. (I live on the top floor in an apartment building .) The last time it broke, it took the HVAC guy who works for my building management over a month to fix it, and it took me calling at least 6 times for that to even happen.

So, I called the apartment maintenance line last night when it was 82 degrees in here, left a message, and later a guy called me back and said someone would be out to fix it first thing this morning. By noon today, no one had arrived, so I went out and ran errands until 4, hoping to come home to a cool apartment.

Oh, hell no.

Called the emergency line again at 4, had to leave a message. Emailed building management that picture and said (politely) that if my A/C isn't working when I get home from work tomorrow, I'll call an outside guy and take the amount I paid for the bill out of my rent. I just got a call from the man I spoke to last night, saying the HVAC guys claimed not to have received yesterday's message, but that they would be here by 9:30 tomorrow morning.

Goddamn, it shouldn't take threats to get people to do their job. They are allegedly on-call 24/7, too, so the weekend shouldn't have been an issue.

It's not even me I'm worried about, it's my cats. Miraculously, it's not humid here, and my kitchen floor tiles are dark and cool, so I've set up a makeshift swamp cooler with an oscillating fan and a stack of freezer packs in the kitchen and have coaxed one cat into joining me here. The other cat is dumb and is lying under my bed and I can't budge him. :( I've stuck his waterbowl with some ice cubes under there; hopefully that will help.

Yiiikes...I like it warm (82 is really nbd to me) but 90 is way too hot indoors.

Cats do like it really warm, and their internal temperatures are higher than ours, so it's possible the one under the bed is comfy? I hope so anyway!

And I totally feel you on incompetence in apartment maintenance, adlsfkjl;askdjf. SO frustrating. Here's hoping they come out tomorrow like they said and fix it!!
