OP

For me it depends on how human-esque that alien is. I could imagine an alien like say...Garrus from Mass Effect could have evolved something similar due to convergent evolution (although the best sex fics I've seen with him involve him having a sort of...cloaca like thing, and a penis that can retract under his plating, which kind of makes sense for the body type), but yeah, the more inhuman, the more I find it becomes kind of jarring.

If we're talking about six-legged bug aliens that would be about the time I would dust off my oviposition fetish lmfao.

Although for the more alien-like creatures, I love reading about sex that doesn't conform to human-standard. I read a great....Torchwood(??? Not in the fandom so I'm not sure) fic where the human guy has a consensual one-night stand with a sentient rock alien, and it was probably one of the most unique, fascinating fics I've read in a long, long time, and it dealt with sex between a human and an alien, and it redefined exactly what "sex" could be in that sense, with bonus points for there being limited safe contact between the two.

It was a great fic, although I can't remember the fucking name which pains me, I should have saved it.

I'm pretty sure this is the fic you're thinking of: http://archiveofourown.org/works/165017

Ha! I scrolled down to comment and rec that very fic (which is also noted in the comment above mine) Ellen Fremedon's Need to Know which I think is utterly brilliant.
