Maybe I am just one of those people who accept that some of the older superheros will come off as nationalistic "Fuck yeah, America!" images, while actual on-page writing in modern times will not. Also, at the time I was reading comics, I don't think Captain America was doing very well, because he was kind-of a non-entity in my reading, maybe coming up in a couple of issues of The Avengers I picked up at one point.
