Yeah, it's really well done in pretty much every way, tbh. Just good stuff.

This is one of those TV relationships that is so painful for me, and yet so lovely and well-done and something I want to watch. So, yes. IA.

I feel like in general this show has found the perfect balance of what I like in a crime show. It is mostly case stuff, but we do get glimpses into everyone's life outside the team. I'm more interested in Hotch's family and JJ's, but I do like the exploring of mental illness with the Reids.

I adore their relationship :). So much. It's so bittersweet and touching. That choice of picture further proves how great their relationship is (and it's from one of my favorite episodes, too, so bonus :D).

As for the bit about crime shows delving into characters' personal lives, I personally do like that, myself. I get into shows because of the characters first and foremost, so I like getting to know more about them on a personal level.

Course, this is also the only crime drama I really watch with any sort of regularity (I've seen bits and pieces of others, but I haven't gotten too deeply into them), so that may explain my stance on that topic, too-for those who do watch procedurals in general and who are more interested in the crime side of things, I can see where the characters' personal lives might take a backseat for some of those viewers as a result. And some shows do have a tendency to overdramatize characters' personal lives, too, and I can see where that can be off-putting as well.

+1

That's one of the main reasons that I like Hawaii 5-0 so much even though I don't typically get into procedural shows. The cases on the show don't really stick with me most of the time, but the characters and their relationships with each other do. I feel more or less the same way about Criminal Minds except a lot of the cases do stick with me because they give me nightmares lol

Ha, yeah, they've had some seriously creepy and disturbing unsubs, for sure (Foyet's introduction episode, for instance-I like that episode, but damn, is it fucking unsettling). They have had some very moving and emotional cases, too, though-there's a few cases on that show that have actually brought me to tears.

But yeah, despite all the changes in team members over the years, CM has always had a knack for creating a great chemistry among the characters, and that's one of the big things that got me hooked when I first saw the show, and keeps me watching.

I haven't seen any of the new "Hawaii 5-0", but from what I have heard about it, the characters sound pretty fun and entertaining on there :). Maybe I'll give that one a look sometime. I'm curious to see how it matches up against the original version.

I would have said I didn't like it until watching Justified. I wish the show had dug more into the personal lives of the good guys that were not Raylan.

Instead of Raylan or as well as Raylan? (Justified is one of those shows that I eyeball with consideration every now and then but I haven't quite taken the plunge into watching. Mostly because I think I will either love it or hate it and I can't figure out which.)

As well as Raylan! I liked most of Raylan's backstory as well, I just wish we'd get some more information on the other three (main) good guys.

Good to know! Thanks. :)

I do like it when shows like this go into characters' personal lives, but there has to be balance. It always has to come second or third to the case. I'd like it if CM threw in some little things once in a while, not even dedicate an entire scene to it but just mention what someone was up to that weekend or something. I also LOVE that they never pushed any ships between their main characters, it keeps the fandom relatively sane and civil.

And yes, I adore their relationship. I wish Jane Lynch had found more time these past few years to come on. And I hope they explore how they're both dealing with her early onset Alzheimers.

Agree wholeheartedly with this. There's fans/fic for pretty much every team-related pairing out there (which makes it extra fun for us multi-shippers out there :p), there's no way the show could make every last group happy if they tried to make any of those pairings canon. Sure, they throw in a few fun/personal scenes here and there that shippers can jump on and play with, but I'm so glad that's all the farther they go. That's more than enough for me to work with and enjoy :).

Seconding this as well. I really hope they can get her back at some point, just 'cause I'd love to see her on the show again. Plus, given some of the things people are trying to do nowadays to help those with early onset Alzheimer's, it'd be a great opportunity to touch on that in an episode and bring attention to and support for those treatments :).

ayrt

Exactly. Even if one or both involved get a canon love interest, they'd be outsiders and they'd show up maybe a handful of times a season. Easily ignored even if you loathe them and it might not even last. Though as a Hotch/Reid shipper I will admit that the one silver lining of Hotch leaving is that it probably won't be because of a girlfriend. Now, if Reid doesn't get a love interest before the end, it's about as close to endgame as a ship can get on that show. It's the small things ;)

I have no idea what she's doing right now. For quite a while there she had Glee and some kind of game show, but Glee ended a few years back. There have been advancements in that field, especially compared to schizophrenia, I imagine. Because one thing I feared when it first came up was a re-tread of that plot where he'd be afraid of having his mom's illness. But there are apparently tests to see if you have early onset Alzheimer's, and way more treatments. But I'd also like this situation with his mom lead to him spreading his wings. At first he might seem like the shy bookish type, but he's actually pretty social and adventurous, so I always wonder why he's not traveling and meeting people (who aren't unsubs). Maybe this could be his shove out the door.
