They are terrible. No place in Oklahoma sells red candy apples. They just sell caramel ones. Every year we go to the fair hoping to see them but there never are any. They also don't sell boiled peanuts. ;_;

Mmmm, caramel apples. I really like caramel anything. It is one of my favorite flavors.

boiled peanuts are a ridiculously local South Carolina thing. I don't think I've ever seen them outside of SC.

I know! I had to explain what they were to coworkers here in OK. They didn't even understand the words "boiled peanuts" together at first.

And they are EVERYWHERE in SC. There was a little stall in the Walmart parking lot, they are so popular there. But no where else. I don't care for them, but I know they're a favorite for some people.

Yeah, there were always roadside places back home that would sell them by the pound. MMmmmm. Salty goodness.

And then there's this place in downtown Columbia that claims to have the worst but everyone swears by them.

They're definitely a thing in Georgia. I don't care for them but they're everywhere around here. Granted, I'm right on the border of GA and SC so that probably has something to do with it. XD

Confession: I have never had a red candy apple. They look so nice! What does the candy part taste like? Is the candy chewy, kind of like the texture of caramel? 'Cause I do think I'd have a problem with it if it was much harder than that.

The candy is actually really hard. It is basically a melted sugar coating that has hardened. They usually have a slight cinnamon taste but that depends on who makes them.

Oh yes! I loved those as a kid, but nowadays I prefer red candied grapes. They're even more amazing than apples. But I always have to wait for Christmas time to get them. :(

I don't really understand what boiled peanuts are. They're salty right? Do they taste any different than normal peanuts? More salty or more crispy?

I've never heard of red candied grapes. They are grapes covered in hard candy?

They are literally just raw peanuts that have been boiled for like nine hours in salt water. They are wayyyy saltier than normal peanuts. They are also completely soft. And delicious.

Good to know. I'll have to try them, if I ever make it to the US. :)

Yes, the grapes would be just like the apples, covered in a usually bright red sugar solution. Looking like this:

Soggy peanuts sounds really unappetizing.
