Male/Male Original Fiction

Anyone have some recs for some good original male/male LGBT fiction that isn't super cliche OR isn't just romance?

What kind of genre do you like, and how kinky? I read a lot on OriginalAdultFanfiction.org, though it's definitely gone downhill, there's still some rare gems on there. That is, if you generally like stuff written in the style of fanfiction, except original. Plus, it's free. (unless the author takes it down and starts charging, which I guess is their right)

Otherwise, I am always on the lookout for gay historical or fantasy. I like Mary Renault's Greek/Classical historical-genre works, though they tend to veer on pederasty (that ol' greek ideal and all - just a warning if that makes you uncomfortable), some, like The Last of the Wine, are really beautifully written.

Kinky is fine for the most part. Though, I was more looking for published fiction. I just wanted to see if any can interest me as much as fanfiction. Uh, I think I am cool with all genres?

NAYRT One of my favourite fantasy series is Song of the Fallen by Rachel Haimowitz:

It's M/M, non-cliche, the romance is secondary to the story, and I just love her writing style.

Chances are good you've been told about The Captive Prince series, by CS Pacat, but if not, check that out. The romance is good and there was also a surprisingly robust plot to it!

(Not OP)

Er, how rapey does the story boil down to? I read the first chapter or so and thought the prose was good, but I'm easily squicked by noncon.

I'm reading the Aberrant Magic series by Lyn Gala. It's REALLY good.

Also just finished Gryffon Hall, by Alexis Duran. I was pleasantly surprised how good it was, even though it had a fairy tale taste I wasn't expecting (and usually find such things cliche, tbh).

I can rec R. Cooper (pretty much all of it), and J. L. Merrow's Plumber's Mate series. Other authors I would consider above-par (and not just romance) are Jordan L. Hawk and Jordan Castillo Price.

A lot of people really like K.J. Charles, but the author is hit or miss for me. Worth a try, though, and very definitely more than just romance.

All these authors have strong worldbuilding skills, I think, and a lot of plot skills.

Harper Fox, and Alex Beecrof offer a lot of depth in their writing, I think, as well as a lot of emotion. Often offer a lot more than romance, as well. Alexis Hall has some pretty good stuff, too. 40 Souls to Keep by Libby Drew is a story I found rather unforgettable. I have a fondness for Charlie Cochet's Christmas stories, though they do pretty heavily skew romance, and some people like her other stories better.

Well, there are a lot of options out there, depending on what you like.

Best of luck

At Swim Two Boys, by Jamie O'Neill

Elizabeth Lynn wrote a few M/M relationships in her fantasy and sf. Not explicit, though. Shrug. Try Dragon’s Winter or A Different Light, maybe?

Hero by Perry Moore is an easy read and we all need more gay superheroes in our lives. A lot of people don't like it, but it's my favourite and it's quite easy to get through.

Pyrrhus by Mark Merlis is one I read a few weeks ago and I loved it. It's got characters from Greek myth in the gay scene during the 1980s and despite having some genuinely dark subject matter the narrator is so sarcastic and witty I couldn't stop myself from laughing.
