Lynch mobs are going to exist, in every internet controversy, no matter what. There is nothing that we can do one way or the other to effect that. Fact of life. So, to me, I'm going to condemn the things I think are right and support the things I think are wrong, and not base my support on an endless and inevitably futile attempt to sort out and adjudicate which side has "the high ground".

I obviously flipped condemn and support here.

I really don't understand your point? Because they exist, they are okay? My very point is that internet lynch mob mentality is disgusting and you have zero right to the ethical high ground if you participate, and if you condone violence, cyberbullying, etc on people, you are a scumbag. Period.

I agree that they're bad, I just don't think it has any bearing on which side of an internet argument is right. And people always want to use it that way.

I agree it has nothing to do with what side is right, in the sense of, the person they are attacking could very well be terrible. But ethical behavior is only about you and your actions, not someone else.

The person they're attacking could be terrible, and there are usually people making the point without being an internet lynch mob, and those people aren't wrong because of the lynch mob. They're wrong if their arguments are wrong.

Then, that's not what I'm talking about? Lynch mobs, "call out culture", violence/murder-condoning, spam attacks - all in the name of self-righteousness - is my issue here, not people having intelligent discussion.

And - as I said in my original reply and subsequently - people very frequently try to use that as an argument in itself, which I think is wrong. People do it all the time.
