I don't really think it's become mainstream to the point that more involved fandom creativity (rather than just...buying a GOT shirt) is quite out of the realm of being super mockable, even for the gen writing you wouldn't be embarrassed to admit to if it wasn't fanfic. The combination of more exposure to it in media discussion while the stigma against it is still there is just making me miss the thicker wall between fandom and the mainstream.

And it's only getting harder to find good fic because almost everyone is a dilettante, lol.
