It's a skewed perspective. All we know of her is her face. We know a lot more about him. And it treats her as a commodity where her looks are the only thing important about her.

But anyway, it puts him in the driver's seat (he's somehow gracious enough to marry her when her looks are sub-par? ew) when in fact a decision to get married comes from both people. They have been gracious enough to marry each other when in fact love and marriage are a terrible risk in this dangerous world of opening your hearts to someone. I find the prospect utterly terrifying, myself.

It's also the creepy assumption that good looks and money mean you can "get" people. The whole idea of ranking people on attractiveness and then saying "Oh, how DOES she do that? She's WAY too ugly to be with him", or assuming an ugly man with a gorgeous woman MUST have money or it'd never happen, or the VERY weird vibe of this secret that the man is somehow NOBLE for choosing a woman "unworthy" of him. Oh, look how GOOD he is, he looked past the fact that she's not SUPER HOT and actually chose someone he liked. He could have "got" someone with Hollywood looks!

I super HATE this kind of thinking.

AYRT

I have a friend, P. who is super short and basically looks like a hobbit, with all the hairiness you'd expect, and I introduced him to my friend Y., who is a tall, willowy, blue-eyed blonde, and they hit it off so severely they were married within a year. I'm sure everyone constantly says the same about them (how did P. land her, he must be rich, etc.) but seeing it from the inside, and considering all the bitchfest sessions Y. and I have had over the years about how crappy guys can be and how hard it is to find one who sees you for who you are, I know exactly why Y. fell in love with P. Because he has a heart of gold, is funnier than fuck, and loves her back just as much. They have 3 kids now. <3
