School was so bad growing up that my first conscious thought of the day was "I hate school" even on weekends and during the summer, especially if I was woken up rather than coming awake naturally. It'd been that ritualized. I dealt with some pretty horrendous abuse at school and the staff didn't give a single flying fuck because I didn't play sports.
