I've been in the Klance tag a couple of times, just to see what was going on there and if it would make me start shipping it (it didn't, sadly), and I was left feeling jealous and sad because the Klance tag was filled with nothing but art, fic and positive squeeing, while the Sheith tag is 50 % anti Sheiths telling us we're supporting pedophilia and Sheith shippers talking about being sad after being called pedophiles. And some survivors venting about going through emotional trauma because they were accused of supporting pedophilia.

What makes you so certain that Keith is 17 and not 18 or 19? The only age he's been given is "late teens". And don't base it on that writer agreeing that Shiro is the only adult, he was put under pressure by an agitated and upset sounding fan. And some people don't consider 18-year-olds adults.

I'm just guessing since 18 is the age of majority in most countries. In any case, it doesn't really matter to me whether Keith is 17 or 18. I still think Shiro is more healthy to Keith as an older brother figure and not a romantic partner. That's why I prefer Klance.

Dude, Keith sees Shiro as an equal, a friend, not a mentor figure. I've been friends with people younger and older than me (IRL, not internet friendships) and trust me, just because you give/recieve advice from someone with more/less life experience than you doesn't mean you think of them as memotors/pupils.

You can be a mentor to someone and a friend. They're not mutually exclusive. I, too, have friends who are older than me, and I consider them both mentors and friends.

IN ANY CASE, this whole dumb argument started because someone said Klance was less healthy than Sheith. As a Klance shipper, I got defensive and said I saw romantic Sheith as less healthy because I seem him as more of an older brother to Keith because of the age difference, and the way he acts. You're perfectly free to disagree.

I don't consider it pedophillia, but I think there's definitely a power imbalance. I also realize fiction isn't reality, but, like, yeah, I would probably judge a 25 year old for dating a 17 year old rather than someone their own age IRL.

Keith and Shiro knew each other before Shiro became team Voltron's leader, though, so it's very possible that the power imbalance that anti Sheiths talk about isn't an issue to begin with.

And until we get their ages in actual text, I'm going to take the "safe zone" ages a writer gave an upset sounding fan as she demanded ages so that people would "stop yelling at her on the internet" with a grain of salt. People working on Voltron have said that Shiro is a teenager, a little bit older than Keith, and 25. Picking one of those as 100 % truth and accusing Sheith shippers, some of whom are actual survivors, of being pedophiles and/or supporting pedophilia doesn't sit right with me. At all.

Yeah, we don't really have a clear idea of what Keith and Shiro's dynamic is like, so until they give us the promised backstory, any claims of "Keith only sees Shiro as his mentor/Shiro sees Keith as his little brother" are pure speculation without any basis in canon. All we know about them is that they know each other "very well" and that they "have a past" which will be revealed in future episodes, plus the fact that Shiro apparently trusts Keith enough to leave the team in Keith's hands in case something happens to him (based on the season 2 trailer).
