There's a popular sentiment that I think everyone should adopt: never, ever listen to anyone on the internet. I absolutely understand where you're coming from-- there are no shades of grey when you're not face-to-face, and it's easy for people to get into echo chambers that just confirm and validate their own black-and-white views. I'd get jaded too.

I do genuinely encourage you to seek out active, real conversations on the subject in real life, though. You might be heartened to realize how little of the internet really does spill out.
