I mean, it's a sort of confluence of melancholy subjects, isn't it? I think the idea of place as mediated through memory and perception is intrinsically melancholy because it tends to make us aware of the mortality of things and the inevitability of change. And photography as a medium can often do the same thing. And then you get into trying to relate to a person that you don't know, through their memories and their past, and through places that you'll never visit, and that's intensely melancholy. and then to sum it all up you have a very empty street. So it's very melancholy, yeah.
