Because I wanted to squee with my friend -- and because I didn't want to be one of "those" people who dismiss something without even trying it -- I have spent the past few weeks trying to find some RPF -- any RPF -- that I liked.

I've read my friend's favorites, and a few different "Top 10" lists.

I've tried short fics and long fics, funny fics and angsty fics. I've tried "slice of life on the set" fics and I've tried just about every kind of AU I could think of.

(I couldn't get through any of the A/B/O fics I tried without giggling.)

After all of this, Iv'e come to the conclusion that obviously I don't like Jared and Jensen as much as I thought I did. I think they're both funny guys and talented actors, and I wouldn't kick either one of them out of bed for eating crackers.

But the "Jared" and "Jensen" in the stories are just blank slates upon which the writres create any number of different characters. And I don't like the actors so much that just their names make me care about the characters in any of the stories.

(Honestly, I don't think that there are any actors that I like enough that I would care about some random person who happened to have their name doing it with some other random person named after a celebrity.)

Love it or hate it, it seems like everybody in the fandom has a really strong opinion about RPF, but all I can muster is "meh."

Is he? I didn't know that. I've never read anything that suggested it, but then it's been years since I read anything by the author excepting the comic. The strip gets old sometimes, but yeah, I really do like Alice, too.

I find this annoying in the same way I find people who ridicule others who discovered they're depressed through a comic or discovered they're gay through a TV show is annoying. Who cares what it was? What the thing was that set things in motion doesn't make their discovery any less legit.
