To be fair, I'm of the opinion that a scruffy growly morally ambiguous Yorkshireman with messy hair and a habit of lounging against things is a perfectly sufficient reason to watch something.

Agreed so hard. As much as the series has its issues in some respects, Childermass is FLAWLESS.

(IMO: Yes, the Gentleman with the Thistledown Hair is probably the biggest disappointment, because I feel like the script makes him blandly menacing. But I also think the series improved upon a few things for me. I didn't have a strong opinion on book!Strange, but I was always a bit ambivalent about book!Norrell. The series made me adore Strange, and did a fantastic job humanizing Norrell for me. Their exchange in the last episode was just so, so great. That alone was worth the watch for me.)
