do... you mean regarding the whole jack getting a promotion over gabe thing?

But that's canon. I guess OP could mean writers making the fact Jack got promotion over Gabriel a race thing instead of "Jack was better for the job"? Idk.

Yes, I'm aware it's canon, I'm asking if that's what the OP is referring to since it's not entirely clear. I also don't mean the fanfic writers making it into a race thing, because if you read the canon backstory stuff, that's what it sounds like. PoC leads Overwatch through the war and helps them win, once the war is over he's pushed to the side while one of his less experienced white subordinates gets leadership in peacetime? Whether or not Blizzard meant for people to take that away from it I've no idea but it's more interesting and layered than just "Jack was better at the job".

AYRT
I agree that it's an interesting layer to consider, but it's never explicitly stated in canon. It's something that people have picked up in between the lines, and it's a perfectly valid interpretation, but it's not one that exists in the canon OW universe, where Morrison's promotion is framed like this:

"Leadership of Overwatch fell to Reyes, but Morrison would have a greater impact on the group in the long term. He brought out the best in the people around him and helped mold Overwatch's diverse (and sometimes conflicting) agents into a cohesive fighting force. [...] The UN rewarded Morrison for his contributions by making him Overwatch's first official commander."

Granted that kind of speculation that fans have regarding Morrison's and Reyes' race and its impact on UN's decision would probably not exist in the current "present day" world of OW where Blackwatch's doings have been uncovered and Overwatch HQ blown up (presumably) by Reyes. The in-universe news reportings and such are tinted by the public perception of Reyes atm. I suspect we might get a more nuanced view once the Omnic Crisis comic hits.

But anyway, I just wondered whether OP was referring to this, since it's the only thing I could think of that brings both of their races into the matter. *shrug*
