If it happens constantly it is by definition not weird. Sure, you might think excretory supervision weird in a cultural context because it's a thing humans frown upon socially, but it's definitely not weird in a feline context. How else do you think kittens learn to use the litter box? They watched mum.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)I disagree.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)This is why people think you're an ass.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)I feel guilty. I should have clarified, I'm not NAYRT. I meant to but it was a mental error. I hit post too soon. I'm sorry.
Re: Pets watching TV
I was mostly being pedantic because I'm bored and there's no one here to talk to lol.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)And it's a moot point anyway because we're all coming from human culture and human mindsets and it is in no way incorrect, grammatically or otherwise, to call cat behavior weird, regardless of whether or not it's common. If it pings us as weird, it's weird.
Re: Pets watching TV
Yes, exactly. And people don't judge things to be strange or curious if they are commonplace. It's not like you're going to see someone mowing their lawn in shorts and a T shirt and go "oh my how strange!" It's a statistically frequent thing. It pings as "usual" because it is frequent. You have seen it before many times. Your brain does not pay attention to it.
Now, if you were to see someone mowing their lawn in a full Elvis getup with wig, rhinestones, big belt, etc... that's not usual. That's a bit weird. You see what I'm getting at? Weirdness is a function of social frequency. For us, social frequency is private evacuation of the bowels.
For cats? Not so much.
Re: Pets watching TV
(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)I think the faces people make during sex are weird, but presumably everyone makes them.
I think the way people press the up or down button on the elevator even though it's already lit is weird, but lots of people do that.
I think people who flush a public toilet that maybe has some toilet paper or shit or something in it before going themselves are weird, because it's not like you're touching it and you may as well save the water.
So you see, humans do lots of things regularly that I think are weird. It's not uncommon behavior, it's just strange.
Re: Pets watching TV
Okay, I know this wasn't the point of the comment but... SPLASHBACK IS A THING. YOU COULD BE TOUCHING IT WITH YOUR ANUS AND OR VAGINA ACTUALLY. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
