Obviously it makes financial sense! I think it's all just beginning to feel cookie-cutter and formulaic--and, frankly, I'd like a change in the "big" thing. I know indie movies etc. exist, and I watch my fair share! I'm just eager for a new trend.

tl;dr: there's no particular Reason, and there's certainly nothing wrong with superheroes being a trend, I'd just like something new to get big!

Ah, well perhaps video games will be the new trend...when hell freezes over. :(

Formulas work for a reason, though. The superhero formula, at least, works. It makes for fun, entertaining movies. Some of them have some depth (Cap 2 for example), but mostly they are just fun. And that is okay. Then again, I think the DCEU dark superhero movies have run their course. What do those movies have? Still no depth, and not even fun.
