nope. some books really do need banned because they outright instruct and encourage people on how to commit violent crimes and avoid being caught. shit like To Train Up a Child. that book should not fucking exist, end of story.

I agree with you that it shouldn't exist, but unfortunately it does. But I'm definitely not in favor of passing a law banning it. But should Amazon or any other retailer or library choose not to offer it, I'm down with that. And that's the fundamental difference IMO.

*shtug* i disagree, i'm more than in favor of banning it

Literally.

Literally.

Believing in censorship. You should be embarrassed with yourself *shrug*

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
*shrug* shit that does quantifiable harm to the most vulnerable members of society deserves to be censored. if that's wrong i don't wanna be right.

Well, you're objectively not right, so congrats, I guess.

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
so you're okay with child abuse and those three kids that were killed because of that fucking book deserved to die in the name of free speech? okay.

DA

Where are you even getting this? You're reaching so far, your arms must be in agony. If people want to abuse and kill children, they will try to do that. This is the sad reality. No book is going to turn anyone into a child killer who wasn't one before. Just like Mein Kampf is not going to turn anyone into a Nazi who wasn't a Nazi before.

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
lol nope mein kampf turned a whole nation into nazis that weren't nazis before. you lose.

Wow, you really have no idea about the political and ideological climate in Germany pre-WW2, do you?

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
i know way more about it than you seem to

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, Jan. :)

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
a book...turned...a whole nation...into nazis. just. by itself. sensible people with clear minds regarding the political atmosphere and economic issues in germany at the time picked up a book and BAM, NAZIS.

YOU'RE GENUINELY NOT KIDDING ARE YOU

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
nope, not kidding. sensible ppl with clear minds get drawn into cults through their reading material all the time

8/10 -- People are still buying it, somehow, but the facade is cracking and you're starting to sound flippant.

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
This is basically the same argument for banning violent video games and movies, you realize.

BAN THE GTA GAMES, IT TEACHES CHILDREN THAT IT'S OKAY TO KILL AND ROB OTHERS AND BEAT UP PROSTITUTES

and so on

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, and it takes away responsibility from the actual perpetrators.

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
no because GTA is fiction. To Train Up a Child isn't.

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
When even Ill_Omened things you've gone too far on censorship, you know you've gone too far.

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
or not far enough

Re: Banned Books

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Banning books that already exist don't really stop bad things from happening. All it does it makes those books more mysterious and alluring.
