Hee! I never tried the phone thing, but to this day if I'm in a car with my mother I drive her soft by singsonging "Mind the pedestrian!" every so often. I surprised she hasn't killed me yet (or that Richard never murdered Hyacinth). I'm now deeply tempted to answer the phone as her as well.

(She's so compelling. Hyacinth, I mean. It's like watching a perpetual slow motion trainwreck, but she's so morbidly fascinating and kind of admirable in this blindly-persistent sort of way that sometimes you can't help but want to imitate her).

I want an indoors outdoors barbecue and some freaking riparian entertainment, but that's about it. :D

I actually find it surprisingly tempting to try and be her in intimidating social situations. You know, the ones you know are going to go badly anyway. Sometimes it's weirdly tempting to just think "Fuck it, I'm going to be Hyacinth Bucket, bull my way straight through the middle of this, terrify and/or annoy everyone in range and not notice one blind bit of it". I mean, probably not the healthiest coping mechanism in the world, but oddly tempting at times.

Oh, my whole family says "mind the (whatever's/whoever's in the road)!" all the time.

And yes, she is compelling for all of those reasons.

For as dismaying a person as Hyacinth could be for those around her, she had a vision and she pursued it with great passion without letting anything stand in her way. Passion is always compelling, even if the passion is for things like candlelight suppers and singing at the vicar.
