Hell yeah, that's why TNG is my favorite Star Trek. I have a hair trigger when it comes to any sort of preaching or moralizing, but TNG never felt that way to me.

To be honest, I thought it was kind of dumb, too. Nothing against Cumberbatch, but he lacks Andy Serkis' physicality for motion capture and IMO, Smaug wasn't brought to life the same way Gollum was.

I feel this way too! I adore Thursday and his relationship with Morse, and would be devastated if anything happened to him. Also I have a lot of residual love for Roger Allam left over from Cabin Pressure (Douglas was my favourite character) and The Thick of It (Peter Mannion, ugh!).
