Re: What movie left you in awe/amazement?
Magnolia, to a certain extent.
Pan's Labyrinth
Her (not because it's so beautiful, because ironically, I feel like t really captures what it means to be human, and it shows the nature of intimacy).
The original Solaris
Waltz with Bashir (it has a very particular animation style, and it's very much not the kind of animation for children)
Spirited Away because omg that movie just captures the concept of childhood al believing in magic o beautifully (honorable mention there, also: Ponyo)
I'm sure there' more but off the top of my head.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-14 08:50 am (UTC)(link)The whole film is upsetting, but the animation allows a certain distance, and then the ending, when it turns to normal footage is such a punch in the gut. I still remember the gasps in the cinema and the dead silence that followed.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-14 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)I like everything about Spirited Away except the kid. Yes, I know I'm doing it wrong but the screaming and falling over with the arms up like Cornholio just gets on my nerves.
