Anon, you do realize it's from LOTR, right?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
They probably know. Doesn't make it any less lame.

While it's terribly overused, I sort of agree with the sentiment.

Aragon is dope, though

I like the poem, but I agree that specific line is a bit overused.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a woman on a forum I lurk/rubberneck who has most of that poem in her signature. I didn't like her before she put it in, and have liked her even less since. (Yes, we know you're singlehandedly keeping the University of Central Florida running. I assure you, everyone on the forum is more than aware. You don't have to keep telling us.)

This one doesn't bother me as much as the Monroe quote everyone likes to put on their profiles.

Y'know I liked this quote and was going to use it on FB. Then I noticed that a lot of the other girls who used it were assholes. Put me right off.

It is a bit overused but I like the poem it's from regardless.

Not all those who tumbl are followed.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! :)

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
OP, I like you for very petty, petty reasons.

My ex-best friend had that quote as her tumblr banner, so... Yeah. Rock on.

this is my least favorite quoted thing of all time. I've seen people even quote it incorrectly. It's so unoriginal and I have to wonder if people read lotr and thought this line was great, or if they're just quoting it cuz they saw someone else do it and thought it was just so profound

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Amen to that. I'm always seeing it on bumper stickers, and lowering my estimation of the driver accordingly.

Doesn't that second option describe most quoting that's done on the internet? What's so different about this one?

I think it mostly shows that people posting it are young or really, really into LOTR. It's an inspiring quote for many people, but most don't hold onto it forever. On the other hand, when a young person first discovers something like that, it can mean a lot and seems like it should be emblazoned everywhere. Only when you get older and more jaded does it start to seem a bit old! IMO

This is kinda how I see it. And if it's meaningful to them who cares?

Not my favorite Tolkien quote, but it annoys me less when people use the whole quote. Just using this one part of it bugs me a bit, though.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Had no idea this quote was used that frequently

It doesn't bug me, but I don't think it really applies to most people who quote it. They're not doing much wandering - literal or metaphorical.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
It really doesn't bother me. I mean, the description and title section can be tricky to fill out so going with a quote that has a lot of meaning for you or helps get you through the day seems like a pretty harmless thing to do.

I had no idea people were so judgemental of a person just because a harmless or popular quote, it's not like it's hate speech.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
