Serial killers definitely have fans, though. There is an entire community on Tumblr obsessed with various spree killers. I don't see why they would be all that different from any other celebrity or political figure.

If this were about the movie made about the serial killer, or about a documentary thing about them, it'd count. If someone ships serial killers or something then MAYBE, if the secret is mostly about the shipping. The real people, I'd say don't count. "Being famous" is not the same as having a following, and not all types of followings can be called "fandom" in the traditional sense.

They're different from celebs (entertainment) or political figures (who often get turned into entertainment or participate in entertainment through talk shows, late night shows, etc) because entertainment and popularity wasn't their aim. If someone is a "fan" of Brock Turner, no, that's totally not a fandom, regardless of how famous he is or how fascinated someone is with him. If someone "avidly follows" the Westboro Baptist church, it's still not a fandom. Neither of those are the same kind of famous as Kim Kardashian.

A lot of serial killers have massive fandoms, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't. Especially since she has such a famous movie about her.

I don't know, being interested in true crime isn't the same as being a fan of a serial killer. "I love true crime shows" or something would be fine.

Yeah. Just about every famous one has a significant following. It's not just that they're famous, they literally have fans who obsess about them every bit as much as Supernatural fans obsess about those guys.
