Is it weird that I've never seen anyone claim to be triggered themselves,* but I see people accusing other people of being triggered all the time?

Like if the subject of trigger warnings comes up, someone will invariably say that the most common use of triggers is someone (often specified to be female, feminist, or fat) claiming to be triggered in response to someone expressing an opinion they don't like.

But in reality, I always see someone asking "are YOU triggered?" or "look at all the people being triggered!" in response to people expressing ideas they don't like.

*only sort-of exception is in a discussion of trigger warnings, someone might say something like "child abuse triggers me," but even then, they're not claiming to be triggered at that moment, and they aren't claiming to be triggered by anything anyone said.

In this case, I assume it's ironic, because OP is implicitly positioning themselves on the side of the culture wars that claims trigger warnings and safe spaces are evil.

In my fandom shippers of the most popular pairing are trying to shame shippers of the second most popular ship claiming that Pairing B is problematic and won't somebody please think of the children, this is a fandom for a kids show, what if those kids see your porn. Porn of Ship A is fine, thought, and apaprently won't traumatize the children.

I see. Thank you for that information.

Yeah, it's my go-to comment when someone is whining about triggers or "SJWs" or whatever other fucking GG/MRA/alt-right bugaboo's gotten up their ass.

Tumblr = concern trolling expert level.

But in reality, I always see someone asking "are YOU triggered?" or "look at all the people being triggered!" in response to people expressing ideas they don't like.

The reason people do this is because other people claim to be triggered to avoid hearing ideas they don't like.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Do they?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I see people saying that all the time. But I haven't actually seen it.
I've only seen people accusing people of being triggered, usually to mock someone for expressing an idea that they don't like (not dethtoll, I realize he was being sarcastic).

In other words, everyone seems to think people claim to be triggered themselves, in reality, you're more likely to have someone else claim you are triggered.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Look, alt-right assholes wouldn't have any ammunition for mockery if people didn't demand trigger warnings for every fucking thing under the sun. Which kind of also looks like avoidance of ideas they don't like. The mockers and the mockees are two sides of the same coin.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Another thing that gives cover to alt-right assholes is talking about it as though it's a much more widespread problem than it is, and in a way that doesn't acknowledge that trigger warnings do have validity in some circumstances.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
IDGAF about giving cover to one side or acknowledging the validity of the other side. You're both whiny brats who don't want to hear things you don't like, and yes, you are both equally loud and equally exasperating.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Your faux-libertarian "above it all" attitude is tiresome.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
you phrased that like a question and then you finish off with "in reality". so you do know the objective truth?

im following a couple of blogs that have replied to asks about please tagging x because it's triggering, i've seen otherkin blogs genuinely claim they're triggered if someone claims the same character as them. seems to me my anecdotes contradict your anecdotes...
