Agreed! I'd like some more down to earth musical movies - and with actors that can actually sing, please. And none of that overproduced, autotuned to hell Glee stuff either.

"and with actors that can actually sing, please"

Yeah, this. I love Les Miserables (the musical), and I want to be kind to Russell Crowe and say that he tried, because he did try, but... :-( I can't pick on him too much, because most of the singers were weak, he was just the weakest of the weak.

But why do you want to do an adaptation of a MUSICAL, and then pick famous people who can't really sing? Go with the Broadway-type people.

I think they were fooled by the fact that Crowe has a rock band. Pub rock does not guarantee good singing, and sometimes can make the singer's voice worse. I swear Jimmy Barnes is far worse a singer now than but in the early 80s when he first got famous.

That's exactly who I was thinking about haha

Crowe... tried. I'd even say he tried too hard and that made it worse. But Javert's not a role for the less-than-mediochre singer who tries real hard. It was downright painful to watch/hear.
(I also think he would have fit Valjean better going purely by looks, but singing-wise, that would have been even worse.)

And sure, I get that they wanted to lure people in with the big names and all, but surely, there are big name actors who can actually sing?
