Which film genre do you think needs a huge revival?

In the 90's, there were a lot of female buddy films. I want more of those, and not ones like Bridesmaids which pose themselves as female buddy films, but really aren't.

What do you have in mind when you say that those movies aren't really buddy movies?

(I'm not disagreeing, just curious about what the line is)

The First Wives Club is my shit

Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Green Fried Tomatoes, Girl Interrupted, Spice World and The Witches of Eastwick are also <3 <3

I feel like it's been going ok since then? (Banger Sisters, Uptown Girls, Girlhood, The Heat, The House Bunny, Miss Congeniality, Charlie's Angels, Chocolate, Bend It Like Beckham... and idk if Spy counts?)
but hell yeah, could definitely use a revival

if you're a fan of FabAb, I recommend the movie they just did this year! it wasn't perfect but imo FabAb fans will love it

I think Now and Then is a great movie of this where we show them as children and then all of them grown up as well, showing their friendship surviving everything.

Westerns. They are always on the cusp of a revival but it never happens.

Yessss. I'm just really hoping that maybe the new Magnificent Seven will trigger a bit more interest in the genre again.

Then again, I can see westerns being potentially called "problematic" a lot, so I'm not sure a real revival is possible.

You know, it does seem like they're pretty dead, and I can't see them coming back, but I'm not sure why exactly that is. Especially Western as a genre, rather than as a period piece - I would say that the recent True Grit adaptation is more a period piece.

It just kind of feels like most things that try to do Western as a genre, it feels formal and stiff, like people are doing it just because it's the kind of thing that you should do. I guess it's hard to figure out what reason there would be to make a Western specifically.

I like Longmire as a modern Western/police procedural, with a jaded Sheriff and pissed off Res cops. It's kinda like Walker Texas Ranger, but serious, and with fewer roundhouse kicks.

Campy action movies. Action today seems to be on the serious side.

Fantasy. Can we please have some epic fantasy movies that are actually good? And not necessarily Game of Thrones style "realistic" fantasy. I want full on fantasy.

Classic original scifi blockbusters and also B-movies.

Vampire movies/werewolf movies. Enough zombies, lets go back to werewolves and vampires.

Movies in the style of classic Disney animation, but more about badass women and with women who look different and not just cookie cutter.

Sci-Fi of the space opera variety (preferably not connected to Star Wars or Star Trek).

And I'd also be very interested in original high fantasy.

Kaiju! I'm hoping with Cloverfield, Pacific Rim and Godzilla's comeback(s) we're taking slow, baby steps towards a revival.

I never want my favourite genre to make a comeback. I mean I'd love new source material, but it is so genuinely problematic that it could not possibly exist in the modern era at all.

I like the Bold African Explorer and Colonial Settler genre.

See. Half of you are angrily typing away about how horrible I am and how I should be raped by Harambe's ghost right now. I know that it is loaded with problems but I can enjoy the movies and still put them back on the shelf as being from a place in history where people didn't know better and return to the modern world afterwards.
