Probably the same thing that makes them* think that unpaid internships are unique to millennials. It's just specialer that way.

By "them," I mean the unnamed author of this headcanon. I'm sure that most millennials don't think that life was all paid internships and $25/hr starting salaries until the year they entered the job market.

Okay, ignoring the fact that you're looking to start something, Harry Potter and friends were GenXers by most people's reckoning. Leaving the war out of it (because as magical national heroes they got some perks that their average age-mates would not have) They would have been entering the job market between 2001-2004. If you really think that the job market is significantly worse right now than it was during that time period, then you are deluded.
