When you find doing that pretty manageable ... Prepping yourself appropriately, and retaining your preparations well enough that you can utilize them fully in the moment, it is easy to overestimate others' ability to do the same. I assure you, that is a function of your intelligence that you reliably can prep yourself for your day - it is way more challenging for most people.

I never really considered that, honestly.

IRL I usually just kind of assume my colleagues are about as good at prep as I am, and are just generally following suit. I know they definitely make time for it.

...I feel like the real reason is there's probably a disconnect between theory and practice for some people, like... they know the theory but haven't really extrapolated it to a real situation or an experiment yet? Because I usually get the "you're a genius" comments when I suggest an assay, but really I'm just applying x test that I happen to know does x thing.

idk. I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging here. I'm really just thinking out loud. My powers of retention are absolutely less developed compared to some people I know. I can't memorize a hundred terms in a single evening. Hat's off to people who can. ...I'm just pretty good at figuring how to apply things.
