AYRT

I really don't see what that has to do with my comment, or with the secret generally. Or, I guess, what you're driving at in general.

Since you don't get sarcasm:

"Liking something problematic without engaging with the problematic aspects is IMO a flawed attitude."

No, it isn't. Being aware of something being problematic is more than enough and you don't have to engage if you don't want because, ffs, it's fiction and its main purpose is to entertain. Having fun is perfectly OK.

I don't really see a huge difference between "be aware of" and "engage with" - I'm sorry if I misspoke or was confusing there. And I don't think that having fun is wrong. If you think about it and you decide that you're enjoying the thing - like, that falls into what I would consider "engaging with the issues".

Fair enough.

For me, engage with implies something more active, while being aware of something is just something personal that doesn't involve any additional action outside that awareness.

And since the current opinion seems to be that being aware is not enough, you have to talk about the problematic elements every time you mention a work and never, ever, just enjoy it because that enjoyment itself is problematic... well, it's easy to assume the worse at that "engage with."
