Although to be fair to Tin Tin in the Congo, the region has gotten markedly worse without the steadying hand of Europe on the tiller.

I'm not sure how to respond to this one, tbh.

Just admit the Congo was safer and generally more productive when Europeans were running it instead of native warlords.

You mean when ole Leopold was using it as hit private Zoo and chopping off heads and hands? Ah yes, the good ole days. /s

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yet a European woman could visit it and have little fear for her safety, unlike now. You don't have to think it was good, just better than it is now. Which is pretty much native warlords running it in the same way as Leopold only without the building of institutions, transport links, and public safety.

The warlords are in large part a result of Europe totally messing up existing power dynamics and societal structures

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Only in that Europe developed guns for them to use. Other than that it is a return to the status quo of Africa with native genocides re-occurring as they did pre-intervention era.

No. Wrong. Do not pass go.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
this is like, next level trolling.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. Pretty well-developed vein of revisionist history.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
imo the over the top language like bringing up the safety of white women and "native warlords" takes it beyond that, ymmv

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
No, because that is factually untrue. Please go and study something called "history" as you seem to be unfamiliar with it.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
How was it before the steadying hand of Europe first arrived?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
It was a warlord's bloodbath only without guns.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Factually wrong, you little DE troll, you.

All enthusiastic slavers and of course tyrants who conducted their own purges and genocides. At least with the interventionist era the damage was limited to the natives instead of potentially anyone.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, fuck off. You are just a nasty little white supremacist who doesn't care if n*gnogs die. POS.
