Gen Fic Fandoms

(Anonymous) 2016-09-22 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Are there any fandoms where you're particularly interested in gen fic? What are they?

Also, any particular variants of genfic you like, especially for particular fandoms?

All of them. I love Gen fic and there could always be more.

I love hurt/comfort and that doesn't change with gen fic. I like fics where friends take care of each other. I love deaging fics.

For certain fandoms, I love case fic. And I enjoy fics where characters realize how awesome and competent another character is.

I love deaging fics too. Especially when the kid version of a character ends up taking a liking to a character they usually don't get along with.

I love genfic in fandoms in which the characters I "ship" I don't actually want to ever get together romantically, but I love their interactions and want moremoremore of them. Like Joan/Sherlock in Elementary. I love reading fic which keeps their relationship as it is in canon: emotionally intimate but within platonic boundaries -- hence, genfic.

That's me and Revenge. I love the Nolan and Emily friendship but I don't ship them romantically.

All of them? I don't with smut in fic, usually. I will maybe read sexy stuff if a friend of mine wrote it, and/or I actually like the ship.

Criminal Minds, X-Files, Sherlock Holmes (any adaptation)

If it's a mystery or a police procedural or whatever, I like fics that are just that. No shipping, no romance as the main plot, just... a fic that's like an episode of the show.

Ones without a lot of canon ships? Because I know there's a lot of hot debate on if canon het counts as gen and yeah if you have HP fic with Harry then you can probably assume James/Lily was a thing. But I would prefer if they don't suddenly shove Sirius/Tonks into it.

Like I read an Avengers deaging kidfic once and it was cute, but.. it was SO FREAKIN' HETERO when it was listed as Gen. Tony's happily married to Pepper, Thor's engaged to Jane, Bruce and Betsy are married, Steve's dating Sharon who hadn't even been officially introduced to the MCU yet, Clint and Natasha were married, Fury had a OC wife, Coulson had an OC wife, Maria Hill had a husband and the fic made sure to mention it constantly. "Thor can come by and help but then he has to take Jane to dinner for their anniversary!" Like I mean I guess I admire the writer for deciding this was going to be a universe where everyone is happily married to their canon love interest but... eeh, not my cup of tea.
