(Anonymous) 2016-09-22 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)Full vs half vs step shouldn't matter. They are family. And I watched my sister all the time for my parents to go out for date nights. It's only a handful of hours; it wouldn't ever kill me. And part of being a family is doing things you might not care for, but which need to be done to have the family overall stay happy and healthy. I hated taking out the trash and washing dishes, and other chores like that, but I did them because that is what families do. Same with the babysitting.
And tbh, I hated babysitting my sister, as she has ADHD and was very much a brat when little. I still remember one time she threatened to jump off the second story deck if I didn't give her what she wanted. I still wouldn't have ever considered saying no when my parents told me to watch my sister. Even the two years I was in high school and had to watch her for a week by myself because my father had a business trip out of town and my mother went with him. I guess people just value their families differently and are raised differntly. Because I see nothing wrong with this.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-23 04:52 am (UTC)(link)Whereas I wouldn't have even considered saying no, and thus punishment wouldn't have been needed. (Even now I feel guilty if I conflict with family / don't live up to their expectations.) Different personalities!
