Things I like about San Antonio:
People are polite and friendly most of the time
My family is here
How diverse it is
It is spread out and not too crowded with not a lot of super tall buildings.

Things I don't like:
How conservative, libertarian, and macho the culture is
Ragweed. My one big plant allergy. And it seems like it might actually bloom almost all the time here.
The drivers.
How segregated and white the wealthier areas of town are
It feels more like a suburb than a city in a lot of ways.

Surprisingly strong nerd / geek culture. I see so many star wars / doctor who / HP / supernatural decals on cars, i'm constantly getting complimented on shirts and geeking out in gamestop or fye or the bookstore with others.

that's honestly it. it's too hot, it's pretty rundown and outdated, lots of racists and conservatives, stores close quicker than they can open, no upward mobility for jobs, far too crowded which proves just how unlucky so many people are.

Things I like:

- I was born and grew up here, so it's home, and I have a lot of friends and family here
- the food culture is amazing and there's great food anywhere you turn; same with the drinking culture
- generally good political atmosphere and vibes
- beautiful landscape and architecture
- a pretty good openness to weirdos and lots of opportunity to pursue whatever you might like

Things I dislike:

- rent costs too much; massive issues with segregation, gentrification, affordable housing, etc
- doesn't rain nearly enough for my liking; no real seasons
- people here are too good-looking and cool and I constantly feel self-conscious and ugly
- people here are too self-assured and confident and I can't relate
- substantial, constant population churn

Things I like:
- low cost of living
- cool history and culture
- very maneuverable with a car (i'm a car person)
- big enough to have everything you could want, small enough it's not overwhelming
- LOW COST OF LIVING

Things I don't like:

- 300+ miles from fiancee
- no real LGBT community for young people
- fairly conservative hick culture
- few friends :(

But I'm moving in a year's time!

Cheap cost of living is great. Everything else is terrible.

I used to live out in meth country, where dogs are never tied up and usually mean. Inconsiderate dog owners are the worst people.

It's too expensive and many people can't afford to live here unless they do the dozen roommates thing. Gentrification is a real problem here. I live in the San Francisco Bay area.

I forgot to add that I like almost everything else here, especially the diversity and the food.

My best friend lives in the Bay Area. I've been wanting to move out there because my health is usually better there than it is here, but ugh the cost of everything!

I mean, the area I live in is pretty costly (no chance of a house under about $900k) but at least renting isn't terrible. Even renting where she is is like... $2500 for piddly one bedroom apartments.

Things I like about the greater Baltimore area:

- You can get crab everything everywhere.

- A blend of suburban and rural, and we're very protective of our rural side.

- We don't really get bitter cold often, except for that weird winter maybe... two, three years ago? We also only have a few snowstorms a year.

- Baltimore itself actually a pretty nice city in some parts. Really and truly, it is.

Things I dislike:

- Even though Maryland itself is a blue state, people here tend to be very conservative, which can get awkward for me. (Although I think it's rubbed in, because compared to my liberal friends from other places, I'm not as liberal.)

- Because we don't get snow much, if we get half an inch, the entire area comes to a grinding halt.

- Apart from the nice parts, Baltimore's actually a pretty horrible city.

Cincinnati pros:

Cost of living here is one of the cheapest in the country
Depending on the year it's just an explosion of green during the spring and summer
There's only a couple super-wealthy/super-white parts of town, the rest are pretty well integrated
Downtown Cincinnati is gorgeous at night, especially when it's cold out
Healthy immigrant population (mostly Asian and Indian -- they're here for tech jobs)
If you can get up on the hills to the north you have an amazing view of the area, I grew up seeing downtown Cincinnati from 10 miles away

Cons:
Fuck everyone here
EVERYONE
so many fucking teabaggers and other meat robots
the weather fucking sucks a million dicks it's almost october and it's like 90 out RIGHT NOW what the fuck is this shit
job market is non-existent, especially if you're disabled, 'cuz we keep voting for republicans to run this goddamn state
SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT BASEBALL
traffic fucking blows at all hours of the day and night unless you go out after 10
it takes forever to fucking get anywhere
our public transit is a joke, the buses barely even run on sundays what the fuck is that?
too culturally southern
i see another goddamn confederate flag on someone's truck when cincinnati used to be a UNION FORTRESS i swear to god i'm gonna get busted for smashing windshields while reciting the gettysburg address
SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT FOOTBALL

Likes
Safe and quiet
Don't have to go far to buy food or clothes
Friendly people
Lots of community activities, farmers markets, and fun stuff like that
Easy to get around (car, bicycle, bus, walking)
Diverse population

Dislikes
It's a pain getting to anywhere outside of the town
Large population of certain foreigners who are exempt from driving testing and do things like drive on the wrong side of the road and don't know how to read the road signs
The local shops have all closed and been replaced with some chain shops but mostly charity shops because they don't have to pay tax

I like that there's a lot of bus stops and train stations in easy-walking distance, and the transportation in general is abundant.

But the flat/house prices are insane, I cannot afford to live on my own where I am.

Love having my own place and I love seeing all the critter and wildlife (or as much wildlife you can see in a limited habitat).

Hate having to deal with all the idiots who use the residential area as their own personal Speedway just so that they can reach the main road and do 20 below the speed limit.

Like: It's so, so pretty. Mountains and valleys and a river. Even just going to the grocery store is pretty.

Dislike: There's a major state university in the city, which basically makes it a company time. Things shut down whenever there's a graduation or major sporting event.

What I like: It's smaller, and easier to get around. Also, the buses are a lot more efficient.

What I don't like: It always smells a little funny, like the sewers aren't working properly.

Going to kinda mix both my state (Iowa) and particular city in here:

Good:

-There's some cool and interesting history in my town.
-People here are generally pretty friendly.
-It's where I was born and grew up, so I'll always have a special fondness for the town on that level.
-We get lots of snow here in the winter time, which makes me happy.
-I know people like to joke about Iowa being totally flat, but that's not entirely true (the western and eastern sides have foothills and whatnot), and even in the flat areas, the scenery is still really pretty in many ways.
-We do tend to be a little more progressive politically sometimes than other states in this part of the country.
-Iowa usually finds itself somewhere in the "top 10" list of something or other (top ten best places to live, best states for education standards, happiest people, things of that sort).
-The bigger cities in this state often tend to have a pretty cool culture of some kind, there's stuff to do and neat events going on somewhere.
-Cost of living is pretty reasonable.

Bad:

-We get tornadoes and really nasty floods, and when it gets hot here it can get very uncomfortable because of the humidity.
-We have morons like Steve King, Joni Ernst, and Terry Branstad representing our state politically, and I want to apologize to the entire country for that :/.
-Any young people who don't live somewhere like Iowa City or Des Moines or Ames and so on really don't have a whole lot of options of things to DO here. As a result, they often don't stick around their towns and the state as a whole very long after college (or even before college) because of that.
-My particular city doesn't have a whole lot of variety in terms of its job opportunities, and while I love that we have an interesting history, I think our city tends to rely solely on that as its draw for residents and visitors, and doesn't really seem to be all that imaginative in figuring out other cool ways to bring people here.
-Our state has a HUGE meth problem. I think we're one of the top states for meth users, actually. Woo.

Things I like:
Many of the people I love live here
It's relatively safe
The sunsets are beautiful
The library's close by
We have lots of good taco places
Our local movie theater is nice

Things I don't like:
Guarenteed wildfires every year
We really only get one season (a hot as fuck summer)
The lake stinks like rotten fish
Everything closes at nine or ten
Public transportation is lacking
Bike lanes are poor
Housing is expensive
Too many warehouses
Too many incosiderate truckers who try to make u-turns in cramped residential zones
Not enough rain and, when it does rain, people suddenly forget how to drive properly
No nearby museums or concert venues

I like my apartment, I like that it's an old wooden building, I like that we have a balcony and a sauna and a nice kitchen, and windows to many directions. I like the garden and the magpies and jackdaws and hares, and the berries and herbs.

I don't like that my landlady is emotionally abusive, although it's nice that she lives on the other side of the country, and I don't have to deal with her very often.
