People complain about obnoxious tags so much...I get they're kind of a pain, and yeah "#this made me cry while writing it prepare to sob so hard your anus ruptures" is dumb, it's not...that much of a detractor from the overall experience?

Those tags are kind of useful in a way because usually fics that are tagged like that aren't very good, so I know right off the bat not to waste time on them

I was gonna say something similar tbh. I few errant tags ("#goat farm #why is this already a tag?" is my fav) make me happy, and a lot tell me to steer clear. :P

LOL, goat farm is probably from a specific kind of Spartacus fic.

Hilariously, I encountered it on a surprisingly serious and excellent MCU AU. Can't speak to why it was already a tag though. :P

(Anonymous) 2016-09-24 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Did they at least have a goat farm or was the goat farm important to the plot?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-24 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Good to know. I'm rather fond of accurate tags. :)

(Anonymous) 2016-09-24 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. They are great indicators that I should keep scrolling, when I'm looking for fic.

Yeah, tumblr-style tags don't bother me at all.

What bothers me is people who tag with a million actual canonical tags so their stupid fic shows up no matter what you search. Especially when combined with the old every-drabble-I've-written-across-30-fandoms thing.

Yes, this is ridiculous. Especially in AO3. No, I do not need to know every single character from the damn series is in the story. No, I don't want you to tell me everyone in the universe is hooking up. Leave some shit unspoiled FFS.

I'm going to tag every possible pairing that could exist in this fandom, but obviously, 95% of the fic is actually going to just be about the most popular m/m pairing

Hate that shit

Considering the tendency of entitled idiots to viciously chew the ass of anyone who dares to include a character they don't like for all of three lines, or make offhand mention of a ship they don't like once in a several-thousand-word fic, I understand why a lot of people do this as a self-protective gesture.

Sure, it's annoying. So's getting several weeks of hatespam in your inbox because some offended infant ran to tumblr and drummed up a bunch of friends and/or socks to scream at you nonstop because you mentioned the main character's parents were married and zomg they ship the main character's dad with his boss and now their life has been ruined.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-24 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
But how else will they get everyone to read it, don't you know that if you only read it then you'll fall in love with their writing, and if they didn't make sure everyone got a chance to read it then people would miss out on the awesomeness of their talent.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-24 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm kinda baffled by people who get SO UPSET about people overusing "Tumblr-style" tags. If there's a huge blob of tags, I generally just skim them. No big deal.
