Book Thread

What are you reading, FS?

I'm almost finished with Endless Night by Agatha Christie. I wish I hadn't spoiled myself by watching a TV adaptation before, but it's still very good and gearing up to become a favourite.

I've also read the first chapter of Jane Eyre, which is surprisingly readable and quick-paced. Holy cow though, I thought the screen adaptations were overdramatized, but no, her cousin actually injures her with a book and the adults don't seem inclined to help a bleeding child at all. :O

Her childhood and school years are going to rile me up, I can tell. I only hope there won't be too many chapters of that before it switches to her as an adult.

I also read The End Of The Party by Graham Greene, which made me go :O as well. I'll be reading more of him soonish.

I'm waiting for the October book club reading to start. Got my copy of Dracula all set to go :)

Me too. I've downloaded my copy and put it on my e-reader and my tablet, so I won't have a chance to miss it.

I'm in the middle of the fifth Percy Jackson book, which I'm enjoying fairly well, and Dr. Crichtlore's School for Minions, which I'm not enjoying as much, and it's all because of that horrible little brat Pismo. I get that he's supposed to be a sort of antagonist, but he's just such an obnoxious little shitstain that everything he does and every word out of his vile little mouth makes me hope the zombies eat his brain, if he even has one. And I don't wish zombies on people lightly! I'm not even sure I'm going to finish the book, I hate that fucker so much. Draco Malfoy at his very worst is nobler, kinder and braver than the whiny, smug, sabotaging, ass-kissing snotrag that is Pismo.

Is that a book about those yellow animated minions? In any case, I have to say Pismo is an awesome name for an antagonist, it sounds like a straight up douchebag. 'Pismo' really says it all.

Out of curiosity, who else would you wish zombies on?

Nope, it's about a young werewolf named Runt who goes to a school for minions (because the world is ruled by evil overlords) and basically anything bad that can happen to him will happen to him. Most of it is caused by Pismo. Also, the zombies only respond to whining, 'cause that's all their creator does. That fact isn't relevant to anything I was saying, I just thought it was a funny detail.

I wish zombies on multiple politicians, Meelo from Legend of Korra and those creepy Charmin bears. Oh, and Xaldin, from Kingdom Hearts 2. Let's see you go into godmode now, oh breaker of wind.

That sounds like a strange kind of book. Is it YA?

LOL, do you mean those toilet paper Charmin bears? What have they done to you? :O

Yep.

Those bears know what they did.

Re: Book Thread:- Ben Aaronovitch "The Hanging Tree"

I'm not reading it yet, I just wanted to celebrate that after two and half years of schedule slipping his publisher is finally fucking giving it an official release date. Still, gotta wait until November to make sure though. Wouldn't put it past them to suddenly yank it again.

I'm still working on Graceling for the book club. I need to hurry my ass up though, since the discussion is Wednesday, and I still have 365 pages left. Eep!

Otherwise, I just finished The Luxe by Anna Godbersen, which I bought probably 8 or 9 years ago and only now got around to reading & actually finishing. I liked it. It's basically Gossip Girl set at the turn of the 20th century.

And I just read the first chapter of 13 Reasons Why, yet another book I've been wanting to read since I was in high school, finally bought my freshman year of college, and am only getting around to now.

Nothing at the moment but I can't wait for the next Matthew Reilly novel. Just a few more weeks now.
