Sometimes when I read/watch stuff set in some kind of medieval-ish fantasy world, I wonder what that world would be like several centuries in the future, and I kind of wish some author would do something with that idea.

I did once read a fic that was a LotR/Pacific Rim AU, which is about as close to what you're saying that I saw, since it was set in Middle Earth. That was good, but it petered out and got left unfinished.
