Anyone want to talk Clone Wars or the return of Thrawn?

I am so excited about Thrawn! The casting choice was great, his voice is exactly as I imagined years ago.

I'm really excited for Zahn's book to come out in April.

I was actually a little disappointed. The delivery was a little too flat. I didn't want him to be exuberant or anything, but I did hope for a little more to it. It just felt off.

I'm also really excited for the book. I've actually felt my nervousness increase lately that they're going to screw Thrawn up somehow. The constraints of the show and also the new cinematic trilogy might end up necessitating certain things that would end up undercutting the character and making him look like a dumbass. Or, they might give him a Boba Fett ending just to write him out if that becomes necessary. I really hope Dave Filoni has a plan for him and it's a tight one. I hope Thrawn ends up being sent off to the Unknown regions, rather than having anyone on Rebels be the one to kill him.

I agree a little bit with his introduction. I know the show is Rebels, but I really wanted more of Thrawn, so I'm curious to see how they'll characterize him from here out. I always felt like he commanded a stronger presence that you definitely didn't get here, the voice was good, but I think part of it is the way the show is drawn too.

I hope Thrawn isn't killed by the Rebels. Have they ever mentioned the Unknown Regions in any of the movies/tv shows? I know it's mentioned in the EU all the time, but those books no longer exist (except forever in my head and heart) so I'm not sure what they'll say about it him now.

I also didn't care for Wendig's books and Bloodline felt off in the Timeline because of Ben's age.

I could go on forever about Star Wars, haha.

I agree that I want more Thrawn but I also think it's a good sign that they're using him sparingly. I think he's more effective when others worry about what he's going to do and goof ups (which allow Rebel victories) can be attributed to underlings. I hope they give a few episodes to lay the groundwork so that it's clear Thrawn is a force to be reckoned with and then just have the crew worry about what he's going to do for awhile and let him chill in the background.

I thought the Unknown Regions were where the First Order were hanging out.

Wendig and Bloodlines are on my to-read list. I'm currently reading Dark Force Rising for the first time.

I wanted more, but I understand that we need to build up Thrawn as opposed to him just coming out of nowhere and being this big bad and all powerful. Thrawn is more calculating than that anyway.

I just didn't remember if they've ever mentioned the Unknown Regions in the movies, to me, i first encountered them in the books.

Bloodline is worth it for the read, I still just can't get through Wendig's books, sadly.

I love Zahn's writing in general, so any of his books are good. If you haven't read the X-Wing series yet and don't care that it's part of the EU, I really recommend it.

I looked it up and the First Order is in the Unknown Regions.

I like some of Zahn's writing so far but I am unimpressed with how he writes women. Mara Jade is underwhelming and I don't think he has any idea who Leia is as a character.

I came to the EU starting with New Jedi Order so I already knew of Mara when I read Zahn's books. I think she's a bit better in the Thrawn Duology, but I do remember liking Survivor's Quest as well. He does tend to stick to males in a lot of his books. I feel like Mara gets better in Dark Force Rising and The Last Command, but it's been ages since I've read them so I could be getting the books confused.

Right now, Mara Jade leaves me sour on trying anything else with her in it. I'm going to finish the trilogy and read Outbound Flight for Thrawn, but then I'll focus on the new canon stuff that's coming out.

I hope Zahn does a better job with whatever female characters he writes in the new Thrawn book. It's been a long time so maybe he's evolved as a writer.

I think he's gotten better, I liked Angelmass, Icarus Hunt and his Dragonthief series a lot.

Lost Stars was a good book, but kind of doesn't really fit in with new canon, other than the Battle of Jakku.

X Wing isn't by Zahn, it's by Stackpole and Allston. Both of whom I prefer to Zahn tbh. It's just a style thing for me.

I felt the volume of his lines was a bit off. I get that it was probably supposed to be all " cool calm and collected" and subtly menacing but I wanted to yell "could you SPEAK UP?" at the screen several times. And the way he kept dropping any consonants at the end of his words ticked me off a little.
