I'm not sure why anyone would be upset about IT. It was a pretty terrible TV movie. I'm excited it's finally getting big-budget treatment.

I think it's not so much being upset over the remake in general, but people wondering how you can possibly top Tim Curry a Pennywise... which is fair.

I don't agree with that. Tim Curry has some great roles, Pennywise is not one of them. I realize this is not the prevailing opinion though.

I'm with you, and I adore Tim Curry. But the miniseries IT was just terrible through and through. It wasn't Tim's fault.

I was excited, until Fukunaga dropped out :(

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

At least not Clue. I have no personal attachment to Legend, although I know that a lot of other people do, so that doesn't bother me as much, but Clue should be fucking sacrosanct.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-28 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I love both, but I agree. Clue was definitely my more visceral response, possibly because Legend is a fairly archetypal fantasy story anyway, while Clue has something ... a bit more specific. Paws off.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-28 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
agreed - I'm not sure how they'd pull off Mr. Green these days (unless they change his "secret")

(Anonymous) 2016-09-28 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Legend was really bad. I rewatched it a few months ago and it crushed my childhood nostalgia. Curry wasn't enough to make up for it all. :(

Haha, I still love Legend.

My secret to Legend enjoyment is to mute whenever Cruise is speaking.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-29 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It all depends on which cut you watch, I think.

Hands off Rocky Horror! All the other ones are fair game, but Rocky Horror is perfect as it is.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-28 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't they just doing one of those "it's a live musical on TV" things with Rocky Horror? I'm bothered less by that since it's a stage musical that has already seen numerous productions. Another one, even if it gets more exposure, doesn't bother me.

If they're making an actual new movie though? Imma have to take off my earrings.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again is an upcoming musical television film. It is a tribute to the 1975 film of the same name, directed by Kenny Ortega and using the original script written by Richard O'Brien and Jim Sharman."

Laverne Cox is playing Dr. Frank, which I thought was neat until I learned they cast Adam Lambert as Eddie, and now I wish they'd done it the other way around.

They are remaking Clue though...

WHY?! WHO?! WHEN? BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHY?!

(Anonymous) 2016-09-29 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be curious about that, to be honest.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-29 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure how I'd feel about that.

I think I'd prefer Hollywood just make new movies altogether.

Legend sucked...

(Anonymous) 2016-09-29 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
...but keep your dawn, dirty paws off Clue. That movie is fucking perfect just the way it is.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-29 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
I have read that they are going to remake "Clue".

I really do not understand how people get so upset with remakes. I have at least 4 or 5 different remakes of "The Three Musketeers" sitting on my shelf...All of them are entertaining in different ways. I also have multitudes of different versions of various Shakespearean plays. Or is it only when something is not considered a "classic" that remakes are scowled at?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-29 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
To an extent, yes, I think adaptations of properties that have been there as long as movies have ARE different, if only because of length of exposure. There have been so many versions of Three Musketeers, Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, your choice of Shakespeare, etc, that most people are just used to the idea that there's gonna be more of them and just pick their favourites. Long runner franchises are just different. I think it's more usually one-off things that people are more leery of remakes of, because it's a single thing that they're more attached to on its own merits.

I'm not sure what they're going to do with Clue. Which bits of it they're remaking, I mean. The base concept from the game isn't exactly that specific - it's deliberately the most generic 'isolated house full of murderers' thing possible, so a movie called 'Clue' could be any number of things. There's the multiple endings gimmick and the specific character versions the movie went with, but the original had both a particular sense of humour and a particular cast chemistry that's gonna be hard to mimic, and I'm almost hoping they don't try.

Also it's going to be hard to replace the incomparable Madeline Kahn.

NEVER. REMAKE. CLUE.

THAT FILM IS A MASTERPIECE AND SHOULD NEVER REMADE.
