Just for a streak of different, I'd suggest Twitter. I know the format there of only 140 letters can be a little agravating, but it can word, especially if you use something like TwitLonger or Twitshorter for long posts. Twitter also has the value of being able to be virtually live, if you and your RP mates are on at the same time.

Two down sides? Trying to find people who actually active if the initial interest period is over, and archiving - you basically have to do that for yourself if you want to keep a record of stuff.
