To stick up for designer purses, it's the quality aspect for me rather than the label. Purses that I get for $20 tend to fall apart after a few years (like, one LITERALLY fell apart while I was on the metro). Purses carry a lot of important shit for me, and I'd prefer to buy something that I like that I know will last for a decade or more. A designer purse is going to have the staying power that a cheap one doesn't.

idk man, I can buy a cute $10 purse every year for a decade for a fraction of what some of these designer bags cost

I paid $50 for my purse and that already feels extravagant. It's lasted me for 8 years so far. I get buying a purse that's well made, but just because something is a designer purse doesn't mean it's well made. Also I've seen knock off designer purses sell for cheap in Asia, made at the same factories. So again, it's not cheap purses that are the problem, it's poorly made ones.
