I thought it was kind of fun, but not the sort of thing you see a second time... and then was completely shocked to find out people loved it so much they were getting depressed over the fact that it wasn't real.

Yes. Avatar was one of those movies that was pretty with no substance. But not even in an enjoyable way, at least for me. I really did not like that movie.
