If he'll let you, try wiping it very carefully with a warm, damp cloth, and then see if he'll let you gently open the lid. If there's no blood, or the eye itself doesn't seem punctured or scratched, you're okay to wait until Monday.

Unless he seems in some kind of agony, or is actively trying to claw his eye repeatedly, he'll probably be okay.

He seems to be able to open his eye, and the eye itself looks normal, so I'm hopeful it's just a bad bump rather than anything serious. He seems pretty calm now, and has eaten and gone to sleep. I'm going to gently wipe it with some mild saline water after he has a nap. Thank you for your concern, it's really upsetting to see him in pain.

That sounds not so bad, then. I know cats tend to hide their pain really well, but he wouldn't eat if he were really feeling bad.

Only thing worse than a hurt pet is a hurt kid. Good luck!
