She's my favorite too, but I'm not in the fandom and only know what I've read here about it. So, is it worse than the Klance is abusive and Sheith is pedophilia discourse?

I'm not in this fandom at all, but from what I've seen on my dash the "discourse" (aka wank) surrounding her is probably trans* wank? Am I correct?

Pidge discourse is all "she's a canon trans character!!" "No, she isn't!!" shit, the same thing that plagues every character who doesn't rigidly conform to their gender nowadays. It was the first bout of discourse in the Voltron fandom and a sign of things to come.

I kinda know how you feel. Jasper is one of my favorite characters on SU, but like a third of the fandom hates her guts. I've seen people (myself inculded) be accussed of being "abuse-apolagists" soley because they happened to have her face as a profile icon or whatever. And that's not even the worst of the wank I've seen.
It's...really fucking stupid.

Voltron seems to be the most exhausting of fandoms. Idk, I watched the show and liked it and moved on. I really can't see why the fandom is so super toxic

Yeah as a trans guy not gonna lie the discourse about her is a little frustrating. It's pretty obvious she's meant to be a cis girl who disguised herself. I get being excited and thinking she was going to be trans, but like...it's time to let it go. It's become toxic (and frankly most of the people I see arguing about it are cis girls/women, like chill).

(Also, and this is just me personally but I have heard other trans guys complaining about this, I'm a little tired of the trans male characters always being headcanoned as being the super short, slight, frail (and frequently bookish/nerdy) types. A trans guy is just as capable of looking like Keith, or Lance, or even Hunk or Shiro. I know more guys who look like Shiro in build than I do guys who look like Pidge. FFS I know trans men who are considered bears in the gay community. :/ It's kind of...irritating stereotyping in my opinion.)

I agree. She's one of my faves but one look at her tumblr tag and noped out of it. The Voltron fandom went to shit so quickly I'm amazed.

If so...seriously, fuck those asshats. She is obviously a girl because she stated it (not a transgirl since she DISGUISED HERSELF as a boy) and dude, people will ship what they want to ship. I have a feeling were i into that show, I'd probably ship her and Shiro (IF they have any meaningful interactions) because I LOVE age gap pairs. But, and this important though Tumblr don't give a shit, They WOULD be aged up. It's not as big an age gap as it is between, say, Kakashi/Sakura.

Tumblr needs to learn YKINMKATO and "Ship and let Ship."

They are even making blogs with names/usernames of artists/authors that draw "The Bad Ships" (and no, it's not that nontoxicvoltron tumblr, since they removed it but will give it away if asked). That's not only reaching rock bottom, that's surpassing it.

I'm so glad I've managed to completely stay away from the Voltron fandom <3 I just enjoyed the series, looked up some screenshots and art and that's it. You live a much happier fandom life that way.
