Have you ever sent a complaint letter?

(Anonymous) 2016-10-02 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
To anyone? Government, businesses, consumer help about dodgy products? Did it make you feel better/worse? Did you receive any help or freebies?

Yep; usually about a product, very, very rarely about someone's service.

Mattel usually sends a letter or replacement part, sometimes a voucher.

I can def vouche for Mattel. When I bought Bunny Blac off of Amazon, she ended up with a broken leg (at the hip joint) because she was so stiff. I was trying to pose her and the slightest pressure just snapped her joint.

They sent me a voucher. Would have loved a new doll of her, but hey, I was able to use it for, at the time, a hard to find newer doll. *shrug*

Yes, about an unopened pudding that had mold on it long before the expiration date. I only got the following response (paraphrased): "Thanks for letting us know. That sometimes happens if the cover isn't attached properly." Gee, I kind of guessed that myself.

Wasn't happy with the response and didn't buy that stuff again.

To my school's test center. I had test anxiety, and they made it 100 times worse. We couldn't bring certain things in, but instead of telling me nicely "you're not allowed XYZ", they yelled at me. Then they yelled at me for some other reason. Meanwhile, at some point a kid passed and started knocking on the glass to get his friend's attention; they didn't say a word. So yeah, I complained, and got an apology. Not sure whether or not it really worked, but I'm glad that I at least said something.

I've only ever done it for food, and I got coupons for free products both times.

Sent a complaint email to Cracker Barrel when they got my order wrong twice in a row (my parents went and brought me back food). Got two free meals out of it.

We complained to the company that made a dress that was supposed to be my bridesmaid dress and they didn't follow the measurements we gave them. Didn't do any good, we didn't get our money back.

I once sent an email to the company that runs the metro, buses and rental bikes in my town when one of their trucks that bring bikes to the rental stations cut in front of me without putting a turn signal nor checking the bike lane, almost ran me over, and went on its merry way without stopping while I picked myself up from the gutter I had to crash into to avoid collision.
They never bothered answering, not even an automated "thanks for the input, we'll look into it" response.

I complained about terrible service we received at a Ruby Tuesday once, they sent me a free entree coupon.

At the same time, if I receive stellar service, I'll go out of my way to tell people. The delivery guys I had went above and beyond so I made sure to tip them and then also tell the company how much I appreciated their help.

I have, several times. Usually people are friendly and on occasion you do get money back or a freebie. But sometimes you just get a rude letter. You never know.

I sent one to Purolator once because they never left a slip saying my package had been delivery-attempted, and if I hadn't been compulsively checking the tracking I wouldn't have known it had been taken to a depot and I had five days to pick it up.

Two days after this I got a call from Purolator saying I could pick it up (after I already had picked it up and the depot staff told me their policy is to not leave notification slips at apartments...).

Purolator said that was bullshit (not in that word) and took all my info so they could talk to the driver.

And yes it made me feel better.

I've sent so many complaints to my MP that I'm on his speed dial.

I've sent complaints so a few companies too. Not frivolous crap, but genuine complaints over poor products, usually I get a nice letter and some vouchers. I once got someone fired though, which I felt was harsh. I know because they turned up pounding on my door screaming about me getting them fired, which was even harsher. Then the cops came, tased them, and dragged them away. Which I feel was justified. I doubt it could just have been my letter of complaint on its own, it was just about the local parcel delivery company guy who kept dumping parcels without ringing the bell. I feel it must have been more a tip of the iceberg thing.

Mostly vouchers though.

Someone at a gas station convenience store called the cops on me while I was browsing the chips aisle because she thought I had stolen something. I got patted down in front of everyone in the store and then escorted into the back to watch the tape. Turns out I was putting my fucking wallet away after getting a receipt for gas. She tried to weasel out of it by saying "well maybe he put it back!" Cop rolled his eyes so hard they creaked.

Anyway my mom went down there and made the staff cry, and then we both wrote letters to the head office. Never saw security cam girl after that.

I sent a one to Crayola when I was about five, after I read in a book that crayons were made from chemicals that were made from extinct animal matter (or at least that was my understanding of what it said). I told them I wouldn't buy their crayons anymore because I didn't want precious dinosaurs to go to waste just so I could color my ugly pictures, and they sent me an information packet about how crayons were made and a personal letter assuring me that no dead dinosaurs were harmed in the making of their crayons.

I put in a complaint to the Better Business Bureau once. It got my problem fixed in no time.
