If it bothers you so much then become a director or actor and be the change you wanna see in the world. Why do you rely on the white man to cater to you?

Yeah, just become a director of big budget Hollywood movies, it's just that easy! Come on, don't be lazy by not being rich and famous and powerful.

People are perfectly justified in expressing their opinions on current media without having to actually make it, though. It's a little weird that you're implying otherwise, almost as if you're trying to shut the discussion down altogether.

This. Yeah, directors and studios are free to make whatever they want. But people are also allowed to critique those choices and point out biases in them, too. And considering how much of fandom is built on complaining about choices made by directors, it's interesting how JUST MAKE YOUR OWN is only used to shut down this kind of critique.

this is such a weird comment.

it's standard racist bullshit, used to shut down any critique of uber-white entertainment industry. don't worry, they find other ways to mock Tyler Perry and any other POC who actually does make media of any kind (also that he's probably racist for not casting enough white people in his movies)

Sadly, it's pretty typical. People who don't care about diversity in media and don't want their fun time "ruined" by people who point out the lack of it usually bring it up like it's a major bazinga moment. What better way to shut down a discussion they dislike than by trying to turn it back against the people who are talking and trying to make it seem like it's their fault for not single-handedly turning the tides on years and years of institutionalized racism?
