I haven't read the book. Are there characters of color that he whitewashed?

(Anonymous) 2016-10-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-02 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Then shouldn't everyone be bitching at the author for not including characters of color and not Burton for sticking to his source material?

Or is that too much logic for the SJWs?

(Anonymous) 2016-10-02 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.

In fairness here - a lot of this also has to do with Burton saying something stupid. Were it not for that, the focus might not be on him so much.

What happened? I missed this.

"Nowadays, people are talking about it more, (but) things either call for things, or they don’t. I remember back when I was a child watching The Brady Bunch and they started to get all politically correct, like, OK, let’s have an Asian child and a black — I used to get more offended by that than just — I grew up watching blaxploitation movies, right? And I said, that’s great. I didn’t go like, OK, there should be more white people in these movies."

Which, I think, even if you agree with him, is not a very good defense of his position at all.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-02 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeesh. That is bad.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-02 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
In Burton's defense, he's always been socially awkward and inarticulate. However, by this point in his life he should be self-aware enough to know that and get a handler to do the talking for him to avoid things like this. He's famous enough to pull a Garbo.

Oh, Tim, Tim, Tim...

let’s have an Asian child and a black

I forget about this line and then I come back and it gets me all over again.
